Course Description
This course explores architectural, urban, and artistic issues in contemporary culture, focusing on questions of identity, tradition, progress, and sustainable development. Recent debates concerning the relationship between architecture, art, identity and culture and questions of disciplinary and interdisciplinary boundaries will be explored. By investigating these issues through various source materials - drawn from journalism, manifestos, scholarly essays, film, etc. - this course raises students' awareness of the built environment and the issues that urban planners, architects, designers and municipal governments face.
